Dr. Johnathan McTaggart
Dr McTaggart’s is “Veterinarian, Owner and Chief Optimist” at Borderview Veterinary Hospital. Raised in Niagara, Johnathan has always loved animals. His family’s home hosted a variety of pets including cats, a rabbit, gerbils, frogs, turtles and fish. His mother drew the line at snakes. After high school he attended the University of Guelph where graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from U of G’s College of Biological Science in 1996 and earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2000. After graduation he worked in several primary care and emergency hospitals around southern Ontario before coming home and joining Borderview in 2004. He liked it so much he bought the practice in 2012. Knowing that each new work day provides a unique mix of pets, problems and people, he thoroughly enjoys interacting with his patients and their owners to optimize pet health and educate clients.
When not at work, Dr McTaggart enjoys cycling, kayaking, strategy board games, wood cutting and family time with his wife, Jennifer and their two children. They share their home with two aristocratic cats, Jasmine and Knight, and Dave, their “purebred Stevensville farm dog”.
He is a member of the College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO), the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA), the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA), the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and the American Veterinary Dental Society (AVDS). He regularly attends the continuing education programs through the Buffalo Academy of Veterinary Medicine. Dr McTaggart has a longstanding professional interest in veterinary dentistry and continues to invest heavily in dental training and equipment to assist him in providing quality veterinary dental care to his patients.
